Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor: NCRTC Launches Trial Runs Between New Ashok Nagar & Sarai Kale Khan

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has launched trial runs on the Namo Bharat Corridor between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan. This move represents a significant step toward making the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut rapid rail system fully operational.

NCRTC Begins Trial Runs to Accelerate Integration

During the ongoing trials, NCRTC is evaluating the trains’ integration with core systems like tracks, platform screen doors (PSDs), and overhead electrification. In the coming days, teams will also carry out high-speed testing to ensure everything functions seamlessly under real-world conditions.

NCRTC Overcomes Engineering Hurdles on Yamuna Bridge

To make this route possible, NCRTC engineers built a 1.3-kilometer bridge across the Yamuna River. Despite multiple challenges, they completed the project on schedule. This bridge, supported by 32 pillars, stretches 626 meters directly over the river, with the rest spanning across floodplain areas. The structure runs parallel to the DND Flyway.

Additionally, reaching Sarai Kale Khan required constructing a viaduct over the busy Barapullah flyover and Ring Road. NCRTC managed this complex task without disrupting the city’s traffic or timelines.

4.5 Kilometres of Progress: New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan

This newly connected 4.5-kilometer stretch will offer fully air-conditioned and reliable Namo Bharat services between Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut. NCRTC has already energized the overhead equipment (OHE) along this section, setting the stage for full-scale operations.

At Sarai Kale Khan station, construction is progressing rapidly. The team has installed 12 escalators and 4 lifts to ensure smooth passenger movement between concourse and platform levels. Workers are also finishing five entry-exit points, all equipped with operational escalators and lifts. Additionally, platform screen doors now cover all boarding areas to enhance safety.

Sarai Kale Khan: A Future Multi-Modal Transport Hub

Sarai Kale Khan is set to become one of the busiest hubs in the Namo Bharat Corridor. By integrating with the Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, ISBT, and Ring Road bus services, this station will offer seamless access across the National Capital Region.

NCRTC is focusing on smooth coordination among these transport systems to make Sarai Kale Khan a model of multi-modal connectivity, offering convenience and speed to thousands of commuters every day.

Delhi Section of the Corridor: Steady Progress

The Delhi portion of the corridor covers 14 kilometers and includes three stations: Anand Vihar (underground), New Ashok Nagar, and Sarai Kale Khan. Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar already serve passengers, and Sarai Kale Khan is nearing full readiness.

Currently, Namo Bharat trains operate on a 55-kilometer stretch from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South. This section includes 11 stations: New Ashok Nagar, Anand Vihar, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Muradnagar, Modi Nagar South, Modi Nagar North, and Meerut South.

Soon, the network will expand further with the Sarai Kale Khan extension, bringing the full corridor closer to its 82-kilometer goal.

A Faster Commute for the Region

Once fully operational, the Namo Bharat Corridor will connect Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram in Meerut in under an hour. This efficient transport solution will drastically reduce travel times, cut congestion, and support greener urban mobility.

By combining speed, comfort, and connectivity, NCRTC aims to transform how people travel in Delhi-NCR. With every milestone, the Namo Bharat project moves closer to becoming India’s benchmark for regional rapid transit.
