Noida Software Engineer Suicide: Girlfriend Arrested in ₹30 Lakh Extortion Case
In a shocking case from Noida, 38-year-old software engineer Umesh Kumar Singh was found dead in a hotel room in Sector 27. Police suspect suicide, but mounting evidence suggests sustained mental harassment may have pushed him to take this tragic step.

Girlfriend Arrested, One Accused Still Missing
Soon after discovering Umesh’s body on April 10, the police registered a case of abetment to suicide. Officers arrested his close companion, Iram Khan, in connection with the incident. They also named Santosh, another individual reportedly involved in the matter, who is currently on the run.
Umesh’s brother Krishikant Singh filed a formal complaint. He alleged that Iram and Santosh had been mentally and financially harassing Umesh for months. According to Krishikant, the two exploited Umesh, demanded money, and refused to repay him. The emotional toll became unbearable, which ultimately led to Umesh’s death.
Victim Lost ₹30 Lakh in Alleged Blackmail
The family claims that Umesh lost nearly ₹30 lakh due to ongoing extortion. When he tried to reclaim his money, Iram and Santosh reportedly subjected him to verbal abuse and psychological pressure. Krishikant mentioned that his brother had expressed deep distress just days before his death.
“He kept asking them for the money he lent, but instead of paying him back, they tortured him emotionally,” Krishikant said.
Toxic Relationship Started Through a Dating App
Umesh had been living separately from his wife due to marital issues. During this period, he met Iram Khan on a dating platform. Their connection soon developed into a live-in relationship that lasted for about two years. According to the family, what started as companionship turned into a toxic and abusive bond.
The relationship seemed mutual at first, but over time, Umesh reportedly began to feel trapped. He tried distancing himself from Iram, but the alleged threats and manipulation made it difficult.
Events Leading to the Tragedy
On the day of the incident, Umesh and Iram checked into the hotel to seek medical treatment for their pet dog. Police investigations revealed that the two argued over how to care for the animal. Shortly after the disagreement, Umesh locked himself in the hotel bathroom. When he didn’t respond for a long time, Iram informed the hotel staff. They broke open the door and found Umesh hanging from the ceiling fan.
The police confirmed that Umesh had died by suicide, but they believe long-term emotional abuse played a key role.
Ongoing Investigation
Law enforcement officials have charged Iram under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code, which relates to abetment of suicide. She remains in judicial custody while the police continue gathering evidence. Investigators are analyzing phone records, chats, and bank transactions to understand the extent of the alleged blackmail.
“We are piecing together every part of the timeline to understand what drove Umesh to this extreme act. The financial and emotional exploitation claims are serious,” said an investigating officer.
Authorities have launched a search operation to locate Santosh and bring him in for questioning.
Family Seeks Justice
Umesh’s family continues to demand strict legal action. “My brother was a kind and intelligent man. He didn’t deserve this. We want justice,” said Krishikant.
They hope that a proper investigation will expose the truth and bring the culprits to justice. The incident has left the family devastated and raised broader concerns about emotional abuse and financial manipulation in modern relationships.
A Wake-Up Call on Mental Health and Relationship Abuse
This case brings attention to the alarming impact of psychological abuse, especially in close relationships. Many people suffering from such abuse often remain silent, either out of fear or emotional dependency. Umesh’s tragic end reflects the need for society to take emotional and financial exploitation more seriously.
His story urges people in similar situations to speak up and seek help. It also emphasizes the importance of mental health awareness and support systems for those in distress.
