In Jharkhand, trouble mounts for Sita Soren as ex-PA files abduction case

BJP leader Sita Soren is facing serious allegations in Jharkhand. Her former personal assistant (PA), Devashish Ghosh, claims that she abducted and threatened him earlier this year. These fresh charges have brought her under intense scrutiny, just weeks after she joined the BJP from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
Former PA Alleges Threats, Theft, and Coercion
In March 2025, Reena Ghosh, Devashish’s sister, filed a police complaint at the Saraidhela police station in Dhanbad. She accused Sita Soren and four others, including her security personnel, of forcibly taking her brother to a hotel.
According to the FIR, the group allegedly showed weapons to intimidate Devashish. They then took away his mobile phone, ATM card, land documents, and house keys. Reena claims they forced her brother to transfer ₹3 lakh to Sita’s account. She also said they filed a false FIR against Devashish to damage his credibility.
Police are now investigating the incident. If the allegations prove true, Sita Soren could face charges of unlawful confinement, intimidation, and extortion.
Earlier: PA Pointed a Gun at Sita Soren
This controversy follows another incident involving the same people. A few weeks earlier, Devashish Ghosh was arrested for allegedly pointing a pistol at Sita Soren during a meeting at a Dhanbad hotel.
According to the police, Devashish felt insulted and blamed for Sita’s loss in the Assembly elections. He entered the meeting armed and confronted her. Fortunately, Sita escaped harm. Security officers overpowered Devashish and handed him to the police.
Authorities recovered a loaded pistol, an air gun, a magazine, and seven live rounds. Devashish confessed that he acted in anger and desperation.
Sita Soren Faces Mounting Legal Trouble
These two incidents have created serious problems for Sita Soren. She had hoped to rebuild her political career after joining the BJP in March 2025. But her past and present legal troubles may now slow her progress.
This isn’t the first time she has come under investigation. In 2012, she was accused in the Rajya Sabha “horse trading” case, where legislators allegedly accepted bribes in exchange for votes.
Although the case went quiet for several years, a Supreme Court ruling in 2023 revived it. The court said MLAs involved in bribery could not claim constitutional protection. That decision brought Sita Soren back into the spotlight. She had already surrendered in 2014 and received bail. Her trial continues in a special CBI court.
Now, with a fresh abduction FIR filed against her, her legal troubles have deepened.
Political Fallout for BJP
Sita Soren’s entry into the BJP was a high-profile move. The party welcomed her as a key tribal leader with strong influence in her constituency. However, the recent developments could damage both her reputation and the BJP’s image.
So far, BJP leaders have not issued public comments. But internal sources say the party is assessing the situation. They are worried about how the case could affect their position in Jharkhand.
As Lok Sabha elections approach in 2025, the party wants to avoid controversies involving senior members. Sita’s current situation puts them in a tough spot.
Public Reactions Show Mixed Feelings
People across Jharkhand are reacting strongly to the news. Some believe Sita is being framed due to political rivalry. Others point to her past and say the pattern of allegations is troubling.
“I don’t know who’s right or wrong, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” said Asha Munda, a teacher from Dhanbad. “Too many cases are connected to her name. The law must do its job.”
Several tribal voters in the region had welcomed her switch to BJP. But now, some are unsure about supporting her in future elections.
The Soren Family Under Pressure
The latest case also puts more pressure on the larger Soren political family. Former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Sita’s brother-in-law, is currently under Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation in a money laundering case.
The family, once seen as Jharkhand’s most powerful political dynasty, is facing setbacks. Legal issues, public trust, and political infighting have weakened their once-strong grip on state politics.
Sita’s move to the BJP was expected to be a new beginning. But recent events suggest her challenges are far from over.
What Happens Next?
Investigators will now examine Reena Ghosh’s complaint and gather evidence. The Dhanbad police have not made official arrests yet in the abduction case. However, they have confirmed that the matter is under active investigation.
If evidence supports the FIR, Sita Soren could face a serious criminal trial. That would not only affect her personally but also politically, at a time when both she and the BJP are preparing for a major election battle.
Meanwhile, Devashish Ghosh remains in legal custody for his earlier threat. Whether the courts see him as a victim or an aggressor will depend on how both cases unfold.
