IIT Madras Scholarships for Engineering Students: List & Eligibility

IIT Madras offers a wide array of scholarships to undergraduate engineering students. These aim to support those with financial needs and reward academic excellence. Below is a categorized list of scholarships and the eligibility criteria for each.


1. Institute Scholarships

Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship

This scholarship benefits up to 25% of students. To qualify, your parental income must not exceed ₹4.5 lakh annually. You must also maintain a GPA of 5.0 or above. Selected students receive a 67% tuition fee reduction.

Institute Free Studentship

Students from low-income families (≤ ₹4.5 lakh) who may not qualify on merit can still receive a 67% tuition fee waiver under this scheme. The GPA requirement remains the same.

Notional Prize

IIT Madras awards this one-time ₹1,000 cash prize to the top 7% of students with strong academic performance and parental income under ₹4.5 lakh.

SC/ST Scholarship

SC/ST students with parental income below ₹4.5 lakh receive free tuition, mess charges, and ₹250/month as a personal allowance. This helps ensure equity in education access.


2. Department & Alumni Scholarships

Girish Reddy Scholarship

This scholarship goes to students with top JEE ranks or exceptional school performance and income under ₹5 lakh. Each recipient receives ₹25,000 per year.

Indian Women’s Association Scholarship

Female students with excellent JEE scores and parental income below ₹5 lakh receive ₹1,250 per month for 12 months.

Sri V Ranga Raju Memorial Scholarship

Each year, one student from a financially weaker background (≤ ₹5 lakh) is awarded ₹500 per month for four years, provided they maintain a GPA above 5.0.

Kanchi Kamakoti Jagadguru Endowment

Eligible students (income ≤ ₹5.5 lakh) receive a one-time award of ₹2,500, aimed at supporting their initial expenses.

Dr. K. Vasanth Rau Scholarship

This merit-based award gives ₹25,000 annually to a student with a top JEE rank, GPA ≥ 6.5, and family income under ₹5.5 lakh.


3. CSR & Alumni-Funded Scholarships

Merit-cum-Means (Alumni-CSR)

Students with income between ₹1–8 lakh can apply for this scholarship. It covers full tuition fees and requires at least a GPA of 5.0 for renewal.

Saireddy Comprehensive Scholarship

Each year, one male and one female student with top JEE ranks and income between ₹5–8 lakh receive a ₹3 lakh one-time grant.

Ram Shriram Merit Scholarship

Students who rank high in JEE and come from families earning less than ₹5 lakh annually receive ₹1.2 lakh per year. They must maintain a GPA of at least 8.0.

Deepak Memorial Scholarship

This program supports academically bright students from mid-income families (₹4.5–8 lakh), offering ₹1.2 lakh per year with a GPA requirement of 8.0 or higher.
