Home ministry to facilitate career progression of former Agniveers

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has rolled out a major initiative to help former Agniveers build stable careers after their four-year military service. This move aims to make the Agnipath scheme more appealing by offering job security and structured post-service support.

The Agnipath scheme, launched in 2022, recruits young men and women into the armed forces for a short four-year period. Only 25% of them are absorbed into permanent service. The rest are expected to return to civilian life. Concerns over their future led to public debates and criticism of the scheme.

10% Reservation in CAPFs

To address this, the government has offered 10% reservation for former Agniveers in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), including the CISF, BSF, CRPF, and others.
