Indian medical team reaches Dhaka to assist with treatment of Bangladesh military plane crash victims: MEA

India has sent a specialized medical team to Dhaka to help treat victims of the recent Bangladesh military plane crash. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that the team arrived on Tuesday and has begun work.

The crash occurred on July 21 in Uttara, Dhaka. A Bangladesh Air Force training jet lost control mid-flight and crashed near Milestone School and College. The tragedy killed at least 29 people and injured more than 60 others. Many of the injured are students and residents with severe burns from the explosion and fire. The incident has sparked grief across the country, with leaders and communities offering support to the victims’ families.

India’s Swift Humanitarian Response

India responded to Bangladesh’s request for assistance within 48 hours. “A team of burn-care specialists from Safdarjung and Ram Manohar Lohia hospitals in New Delhi is now in Dhaka,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated.

The team consists of two senior burn specialists and a trained nursing assistant. They will stay in Dhaka for at least a week, focusing on critical burn treatment and infection control. India has also offered to transfer the most serious cases to New Delhi for advanced care if required.

Severe Burn Cases Need Expertise

Doctors treating the victims say many have second- and third-degree burns that need advanced procedures such as skin grafts. These treatments require experienced specialists and modern equipment.

An Indian doctor from the team said, “Our goal is to stabilize patients and support local doctors. We are introducing advanced burn-care methods to reduce infection risks and improve healing.”

Bangladesh health authorities have thanked India for the timely help. “This assistance comes when our hospitals face a surge in critical cases,” a senior health official stated.

The Crash and Its Aftermath

Witnesses said the training jet dropped sharply before hitting the school premises, which was busy with students preparing for exams. Fire services and military teams rushed to the scene, but the intense fire caused heavy casualties.

The incident has led to protests in Dhaka. Students are demanding a full investigation and better safety measures for military exercises near populated areas. The Bangladeshi government has formed a high-level inquiry team to find the cause and fix accountability.

Strengthening India-Bangladesh Ties

India’s aid underscores the close partnership between the two nations. In the past, India has supported Bangladesh during natural disasters, health crises, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed his condolences. “Deeply saddened by the tragic crash in Dhaka. India stands with Bangladesh during this difficult time,” he wrote on social media.

Focus on Recovery

The main priority now is the treatment and rehabilitation of the injured. Many victims will need long-term care, including multiple surgeries and mental health support.

The Indian team has brought advanced burn dressings, pain relief medicines, and infection-control tools. They are also training Bangladeshi medical teams on updated burn management practices.

Local NGOs and volunteers are providing blood donations and supplies. International organizations have offered additional support to make sure no patient is left untreated.

Looking Forward

The tragedy has highlighted safety issues related to training aircraft in urban areas. Aviation experts are urging stricter safety rules and better coordination between military and civil authorities.

For now, families of the injured are finding hope in the combined efforts of Indian and Bangladeshi doctors. This cooperation shows how regional unity can help communities recover from even the worst disasters.
