Haryana family mourns Lance Naik killed in Pak shelling: ‘Always wanted to be in Army’

Haryana Family Mourns the Loss of Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar
In Mohammadpur village, Haryana, the family and community mourn Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar. On May 7, 2025, Pakistani shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector took his life.
A Dream to Serve the Nation
Dinesh Kumar dreamed of joining the Indian Army from an early age. Growing up in a small village, he admired soldiers and wanted to serve the nation. He joined the Army in 2014 and quickly rose to the rank of Lance Naik.
His father, Daya Chand Sharma, recalls, “My son always said he wanted to wear the uniform and protect India. That was his life’s goal, and he achieved it.” Dinesh’s passion for serving his country never wavered.
A Family with a History of Military Service
Dinesh came from a family with a strong military background. He was the eldest of five brothers, two of whom are currently serving in the Army under the Agniveer scheme. His family feels the weight of his loss but remains proud of his service.
Seema, Dinesh’s wife, a lawyer, is pregnant with their third child. She says, “He was everything to me and our children. He lived for the country, and I will raise our kids with the same pride and sense of duty.”
The Price of Duty: Dinesh’s Sacrifice
Dinesh displayed bravery throughout his career. He participated in key operations along India’s borders, including ‘Operation Sindoor,’ which countered enemy activity along the LoC. Tragically, while stationed in Poonch, a Pakistani shell claimed his life.
A fellow soldier remembers, “Dinesh always led the charge. His courage inspired all of us. He was always the first to protect his comrades and his country.”
A Hero’s Last Journey
The village gathered for Dinesh’s funeral, honoring him with full military ceremonies. His coffin, draped in the tricolor, received a 21-gun salute, a final tribute to his bravery.
As the sun set, the community chanted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Dinesh Kumar Amar Rahe,” paying tribute to the hero they lost. The village now feels his absence, but Dinesh’s legacy will live on.
A Legacy of Bravery and Inspiration
Dinesh’s family remains resolute, despite their grief. Seema says, “We are heartbroken, but we are proud. Our children will know their father’s bravery.” Her voice, though filled with sorrow, radiates pride.
Dinesh’s sacrifice has united the village. His story of courage and service will inspire others to follow in his footsteps. His name will live on, remembered by his family, community, and country.
