Now, file online complaints over misleading food claims via FSSAI link

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched an easy-to-use platform for consumers to report misleading food claims. This initiative lets individuals directly flag deceptive labeling or advertising.

How the FSSAI Reporting System Works

Consumers can file complaints through the Food Safety Connect app or the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) portal. The process doesn’t require prior registration, making it fast and accessible. To submit a complaint, users need to provide:

  1. Photographs of the front and back labels, highlighting the misleading claims.
  2. Product name and brand details.
  3. The FSSAI license number, found on the packaging.
  4. A description of the misleading claim.
  5. Whether the product is available online.

After submission, FSSAI forwards the complaint to the relevant licensing authority. If the product has a state license, the state licensing authority handles the case. If it holds a central license, the Central Licensing Officer takes action.

Why This Matters

FSSAI aims to ensure high food safety standards and consumer protection. The Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018 and Labelling and Display Regulations, 2020 require that food claims be truthful, clear, and scientifically supported. This new initiative lets consumers report misleading claims directly, improving transparency and accountability in the food industry.

How Consumers Benefit

Consumers now have a simple way to challenge false food claims. This system helps prevent the spread of misleading information. It allows individuals to ensure food products are marketed truthfully and meet FSSAI standards.
